Varsity Soccer Preseason Coach Interview
With the dawn of the 2017 Fall men's soccer season this week coach Sloop seemed eager to watch his team hit the ground running in the opening game. In an interview earlier this week I asked Sloop 5 preseason questions about him and his players.
Q:What are your goals for the season?
A:I would like for us to gel together as a team, finish top half of our conference, and make state playoffs again.
Q:What are you expecting out of your returning seniors ?
A:In my returning seniors I want to see leadership on and off the field and high quality performance.
Q: How has coaching affected your life?
A: I get to work with teenagers on a daily basis and impact their lives. I also get to see kids in a different angle of life and help them develop a passion for the game.
Q:Do you truly believe that on any given night any team can beat you? Along those same do you truly believe any given night you can beat any team?
A:Absolutely for both. If we let our opponents get in our head and let them believe they can beat us, we can easily get upset. On the other hand, if you are confident enough that you can beat a team and can stay positive and not "lose the game before you get on the field", you can do anything you want to.
Q: How do you motivate your athletes?
A:I keep practices fun, I am positive and very open with my teams. I have an open door policy with my teams and I feel that if you can get on kids level, you can get them to respect you.
